The First Step
 

There has been a lot of press about “The Secret™.”  The basic tenant of “The Secret™” is using the properties associated with the Law of Attraction.  There has been an enormous shift in personal consciousness.  People who have taken this process to heart have opened up their awareness to look at how they are actively creating their reality.  For many people they have become frustrated with their results while others become huge advocates because of the changes it has made in their lives.  So why does it work for some people and not for others?

The Laws of the Universe are immutable and impose their influence upon each other.  Some of the interactions among these laws produce effects which seemingly bend the universal laws.  “The Secret™” is simplistic by design and only addresses the Law of Attraction because the interaction of the Laws of the Universe is too complex for most people to handle.  Still most people are not really giving it their best effort to use the Law of Attraction.  At most many people are only spending 10 to 30 minutes per day ‘trying’ to work with the Law of Attraction, which is at most 1/48th of their life, so it’s not surprising that things are not changing noticeably in their lives. 

Most people spend most of their lives not truly living.  If you are thinking about something usually you are thinking about the past or the future.  You are not alive in the past or future so if you’re spending most your day thinking about it then you are not truly living in the present.  Your body exists only in the present moment, however, most of the time your mind is somewhere else.  Happiness only exists when we are living in the present which is why happiness seems so fleeting because people don’t know how to exist in the present moment.  People are not living in the present because they are too busy worrying about the future or rehashing the past and beating themselves up over it.  Our moments of happiness are when we transcend thought for a moment and find ourselves alive in the present.  It is when we become lost in the moment that we experience joy.  The prison walls of the past and future disappear allowing us to see and experience our internal joy for living.  Children are so joyful because they have not learned to worry about the past and the future and get lost in the moment.  If you experience something as simple as a baby’s smile, time can stop for a moment and we experience a moment of happiness.  This moment of happiness is interrupted by our thoughts of having to pay bills or some other responsibility.  It is the patterning of your thoughts which is blocking you from effectively using the Law of Attraction.  This patterning of the brain creates fear and suffering through our thoughts of the past and the future.

If you try to control your thoughts or stop them all together you will be fighting an impossible battle.  The first step to “Unlocking the Secret™” is to understand how your brain works.  In understanding how it works you can retrain it and make it work for you.  Most people never realize how often they are going down the rabbit hole.  The rabbit hole is that perpetual tunnel of thoughts which twist and wind its way down a dark a gloomy past or future.  The rabbit hole is filled with negative thoughts and possibilities which create fear in our minds and suffering in our hearts.  The rabbit hole is our never ending thoughts about the past and future, it is the sewer for the diarrhea of our mind, yet most us incessantly go there.  People give so much attention to the misery of their lives and they wonder why they keep creating more misery in their lives.  When you give your attention to the misery in your life you merely create more of it.  Sure there are things that we all have suffered in our lives, but identifying with that suffering keeps it in your life.  Letting go of your suffering and misery is scary for most people because they are afraid of loosing their identity even if it is a negative one.  They where their badge of abandonment and abuse from the past and never allow themselves to create a better life in the present.  We are all guilty of this to some degree or another since we all have experienced some sort of suffering and misery which is very real to us.

In order to move out of the past and leave suffering behind us we have to get out of the rabbit hole.  There is an amazingly simple process to get out of the rabbit hole which is the first step to “Unlocking the Secret™”.    To get out of the rabbit hole we have to give the brain something else to focus on besides thinking about the past.  The brain loves to be active so you have to give it something to do or it will go down the rabbit hole creating all kinds of thoughts and feelings in your mind and body.  When you find yourself thinking about the past or dreading the future simply say to yourself “stop.”  In that moment silently say “what do I want”; doing this will take you out of the past and into the present moment.  It may be helpful to make a list of goals and things you want to create in your life so in these moments you already know what you want to focus on.  After you decide what you want then focus on it, allow your mind to be present in the moment and do its job in figuring out how to create this for you.  Give your mind the task of how to create this in your life and ask yourself, “how is it possible for me to create that?”  When your mind gives you ideas on how to do that then take action.  For example, if you are thinking about the argument you had with your spouse this morning and how they hurt your feelings and you begin creating even more drama in your head about it, just say “stop” and think “what do I want?”  If you stay focused on what you want then the drama will fade away.  What you want in that moment may or may not pertain to that situation.  However, in this situation, you may think “I want a happy relationship” then say to yourself “how can I do that?”  You have to give your mind a positive action to find a solution and then take action on the ideas you get.  Taking action brings you into the present which will allow you to experience more happiness.  If you begin judging the ideas you get saying “oh that’ll never work,” then your going right back down the rabbit hole again, just say “stop” and focus on what you want and how to create it.

You will be surprised by shifting your awareness of your thoughts, how often you find yourself down the rabbit hole.  Don’t mentally beat yourself up for it, just simply focus on what you want and you will begin spending less and less time there.  This is a simple process of retraining your brain from going down the rabbit hole to living in the present and creating what you want in your life.  You are actually rewiring your brain to follow a new path and you will be amazed how your life and thoughts begin to shift.  You will be spending more than a 1/3rd instead of 1/48th of your day creating what you want.  After you practice this for awhile you will catch yourself even before you go down the rabbit hole.  Your dream life will also shift and you will find yourself dreaming about ways to get what you want in your sleep.  If you wake up in the middle of the night with a great idea then get up and write it down so you don’t forget it.  Take a moment in the morning to read the ideas and let your mind absorb and resonate with those possibilities. 

Just by taking these four simple steps: 1) say “stop” to the rabbit hole; 2) ask “What do I want”; 3) ask “How can I create that”; and 4) take action on your ideas; you will spend more time consciously being in the present.  By virtue of being more in the present you will experience more of your inherent happiness.  Being more truly happy and focusing on what and taking action you want will by the Law of Attraction create the life you want.

Take the first step to “Unlocking the Secret™” by rewiring your brain to follow the path of what you want and leave the rabbit hole behind you.
